The ritual of Majang Tarub, which means to display a kind of special decoration, and Bleketepe, or plaited coconut leaves, which was carried out on Monday (10/21) at 8 in the morning, denoted the beginning of the Siraman ritual for the bride. The installation of Tarub signifies that the Kraton of Yogyakarta is holding a royal wedding. Also, the Tarub installation is used to keep off perils.

Tarub, which comprises crops such as bananas, paddy, coconuts, and other crops as well as yellow young coconut leaves, has been gradually tied and installed at several corners of the Palace. Meanwhile, the Bleketepe, which is made of plaited green coconut leaves, is also added with various plants. As for the wedding of GKR Hayu and KPH Notonegoro, the preparation for installing the Tarub was carried out at Bangsal Magangan, while the Tarub itself was crafted by the Abdi Dalem Prajurits or the Royal Troops.

The Tarub and Bleketepe were installed by the Abdi Dalem reh Kwedanan Hageng Punokawan Wahana sarta Kriya, by the assistance from the Abdi Dalem Prajurit, as per order given by KGPH Hadiwinoto and KRT Kusumonegoro. The installation was carried out by approximately 100 Royal Troops, which consisted of 10 bregada or groups of troops of Abdi Dalems, namely Wirabraja, Dhaeng, Patangpuluh, Jogokarya, Prawiratama, Ketanggung, Mantrijero, Nyutra, Bugis, and Surakarsa. At each installation spot, there were five Royal Troops installing various crops to be used in the Tarub decoration.

At 10.10am, taking place at Tratag Kuncung Bangsal Kencana, GBPH Hadiwinoto ordered the Abdi Dalems to install the Bleketepe at the particular venue. An Abdi Dalem climbed a ladder to install the Bleketepe at the edge of the kuncung, or cone-shaped roof of Kagungan Dalem bangsal Kencana.

The Tarub and Bleketepe were installed at a number of spots. The Tarub was installed starting from Pagelaran, Pacikeran, Tarub Agung, Regol Brajanala, Bangsal Ponconiti, Regol Keben, Doorlop Srimanganti, Bangsal Trajumas, Regol Danapretapa, Doorlop Bangsal Kencana, the East Kuncung of Tratag Bangsal Kencana, and going further East until reaching Regol Gepura.

Meanwhile, the Bleketepe was installed on the East Kuncung Tratag Bangsal Kencana, Regol Kasatriyan, Bangsal Kasatriyan, Gedhong Pompa, Gedhong Srikaton, Bangsal Purworukmi, Regol Magangan, Pawon Kilen or the South Kitchen and Wetan or the East Kitchen, and Kepatihan.

In the meantime, as the Tarub and Bleketepe were being installed and after conducting the ritual of Siraman for the bride, the set of activities was continued with Majang Pasareyan, or decorating the bride’s bedroom, at Gedhong Proboyekso. Majang Pasareyan means to adorn the bride’s bedroom with various decorations such as fabrics, flowers, and other ornaments of which each pattern and color signifies a prayer for hope, safety, and keeping off perils.
Aside from GKR Hayu’s bedroom, later on, KPH Notonegoro’s bedroom in Gedhong Srikaton, along with the middle room in Gedhong Purworukmi, which are all located within Bangsal Kasatriyan, will also be decorated. The middle room in Gedhong Purworukmi is being prepared for the ritual of Tampa Kaya and Dhahar Klimah, which will be held on Tuesday (10/22) following the ritual of Panggih.

The decorations used in Majang Pasareyan for the bedroom of GKR Hayu were crafted by GKR Condrokirono, Dra GBRAy Riokusumo, Dra GBRAy Darmokusumo, GBRAy Padmokusumo, BRAy Hadikusumo SU, and BRAy Hadiwinoto, taking place at the South Porch of Gedhong Proboyekso. The decorations will then be delivered into the bedrooms in Bangsal Sekar Kedathon.

On the other hand, the Majang Pasareyan process for KPH Notonegoro’s bedroom was carried out simultaneously along with the ritual of Siraman for the groom. The Majang Pasareyan process for the groom’s bedroom was also carried out at around 10.00am by GBRAy Murdokusumo BA, Dra. GBRAy Darmokusumo and GBRAy Padmokusumo in Gedhong Srikaton, while the middle room in Gedhong Purworukmi was handled by GBRAy Riyokusumo, BRAy Puruboyo, BRAy Hadikusumo SU, and BRAy Hadiwinoto. In addition, several offerings were also put in the inner side of Eastern Gedhong Purworukmi as part of the decorations for the pasareyan, or the bedroom.
